Thilo exploring Taormina

[Morning with group in Post “Day 8”]

After getting rid of his peasants, Thilo celebrates his newly gained freedom by exploring the Isola Bella itself. The island counted as private property until the early 90s, whose owner pimped the whole island to the max. There are several houses and pools located on the small island, all of them perfectly blending into the islands rocky nature. I decided to ignore some stop signs standing in front of some of the paths which eventually led me to the very top of the island. From here i got a nice view above the whole property, the sea and the bays surrounding Isola Bella.

Later on I take the cable cars to reach the city of Taormina. I got myself a sandwich (subway knock-off) for lunch which I am enjoying in front of Taormina’s main plaza, shielded from the sun by the cute little cathedral next to the cliffs. I reread “1984” in the shadows as I try to avoid the midday sun that turns Taorminas lovely places into literal nightmares. In the early afternoon I leave my nest, equipped with my loyal umbrella as a source of shadow, to hike up to a small castle from where I can get a nice overview above the little town.

The others let me know that they were about to eat lunch (at 3:40 pm), so I decide to meet them to discuss the afternoon program. After our short exchange the otherd headed for a restaurant while I visited the Amphie Theater in Thaormina from where you have a astonishing view above the sea.
